Each of our restored K6 telephone boxes has a long history. It has spent decades on the busy streets of London or in a quiet English village. It has witnessed countless conversations, farewells, and declarations of love. But how exactly does such an icon find its way from Great Britain to a garden in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland? Let us take you on the journey.

Step 1: The Search and Selection in Great Britain

Everything begins with careful selection on site. I, Robert Ingham, travel regularly to England to personally select the best available originals. I work with a network of specialists who acquire decommissioned telephone boxes from British Telecom or from private holdings. I look for a good basic structure: the cast iron must be intact, and as many original parts as possible should still be present. Each box is checked for authenticity before it is prepared for transport.

Step 2: Transport to Germany

The selected telephone boxes are securely loaded onto pallets and transported by lorry and ferry from England to our workshop in Germany. This step requires a great deal of experience in order to bring the heavy cast-iron parts safely and undamaged to their destination.

Step 3: Professional Restoration

In Germany, each telephone box goes through our elaborate 7-stage restoration process. It is completely dismantled, sandblasted, primed, and repainted in the original red. We replace all glass panes with safety glass and renew all seals and screws. This process, which takes several weeks, transforms a weathered original into a flawless collector’s piece. Read more here about our detailed restoration process.

Step 4: Personal Consultation and Sale

If you are interested in one of our telephone boxes, I will advise you personally. We discuss your wishes, the ideal location, and all logistical details. Would you like a special interior fitting such as a bar or a library? We plan the implementation together. Buying from The Telephone Box is not an anonymous online purchase, but a personal process from enthusiast to enthusiast.

Step 5: Safe Delivery to Your Home

After purchase, your restored telephone box is prepared for final transport. It is securely packed in a custom-made wooden crate to rule out any transport damage. A specialised freight company delivers the crate to your kerbside.

Step 6: Installation in Your Garden

For the final step, placing the 750 kg box onto the prepared foundation, a small crane or forklift is usually required. We support you with the organisation and provide all necessary instructions so that your telephone box arrives safely at its final position.

At the end of this long journey, a piece of British history stands in your garden – a symbol of timeless design and proof of a journey across borders. A dream made real. Start your own journey and request your quotation today.
